During her speaking, she emphasized the importance of public relations (PR) to sport and recreation industry since there are inseparable interrelationship between media release and public reaction because media is the channel to report news and information about sports to publics whilst publics can directly express their interests and feedback about the events from media release.
Moreover, she also gave us three tips to implement a good PR practice, which should consider on Logo Design, Press Conference and Event Ambassador respectively.
Logo Design
It is significant to design a logo with creativity for the event because it shows the first image to publics. However, the logo must be related to your event and it is important that people can know about what the event is going to do when they see the logo. She also reminded us that providing more choices for our boss is the key to achieve his/her satisfaction when we design a logo because people always expect more choices to select when they need to have a decision. Otherwise, it is difficult to fulfill their expectation if you just provide one choice for them.
Press Conference
It is necessary to hold a press conference when you want to promote an event because you need to give legible and unambiguous concept about the event for publics and gain their interests to the event. For example, you should present the content of the event by staff demonstration and also introduce benefits such as prize and award to attract their participation. A suitable time and place for the press conference is also the key elements to catch more attention. Besides, a suitable spokesperson is required to promote your event in the press conference too and it has a correlation with event ambassador.
Event Ambassador
Event ambassador is similar to spokesperson, their responsibility is to promote your event so they must maintain a good and positive image anytime. Whereas, it will create an unhealthy tendency and social morality to publics and it also affect the reputation and image of your organizations. Furthermore, she also mentioned that celebrity endorsement is a common phenomenon in operation of promotion but most of them do not relate with sports so they cannot arouse publics to pay attention and participate more in sports for long term development. Therefore, we should invite celebrities who have exercise habit and enthusiasm in sports or even it is better to invite some professional athletes or elite athletes within sports field. For instance, Annie Liu who is a Taiwanese actress and love long-distance running and Wong Kam Po who is professional cyclist and coach in Hong Kong that can become a good and suitable event ambassador.
At the last part of her speaking, she introduced FISAC-IRSF World Rope Skipping Championships 2014 for us. It is a real case for us to learn how they perform a good PR practice through this event. I am glad to listen her sharing. It can help my learning in studying sports media, communication and public relations.
